Three Mailboxes

I was on my way to work recently for a stressful job interview, but I decided to take a different route so that I could see when the golf course might be opening. As I drove past the course and down the hill, my eye fell upon three mailboxes all lined along the road waiting for the mailman to deliver to them. I could see, however, that the mailman would no longer be delivering, as the homes on this land were gone. A sign said that the large earthmovers there were preparing the land for new homes.

As I glanced back, my eyes were fixed not on the large earthmovers, but on the three mailboxes lined up in a row. The drive to work was a sombre trip for me, and I could not help but think about the homes and the lives of the people who had once lived in those homes. Then, moving towards this Easter season, the three mailboxes, so perfectly lined along the road, became riveting for me as a very visual reminder of the three rugged crosses on Calvary's hill, and the One who lived and died for us.

I know that it was the Lord's prompting for me to drive that direction that day, even though I thought that it was for another reason. The Lord wanted to draw me closer to Him this day, as I was getting stressed about my job interview, and my focus was on what I was going to say and how I was going to say it. The Lord wanted me to lay it down and to trust in Him for the interview. The rest of the drive became a time of praise and worship to Him.

Prayer: Dear Lord, it is with heartfelt gratitude that we come to You and lay it all down at the foot of the cross. Lord, thank You for the everyday events through which You show Yourself to us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
