The Message

Our sons entered into a contract with a radio station to advertise their computer business. When they met with the salesperson to go over what they wanted in the ad, he reminded them that it was to be no longer than thirty seconds. Thirty seconds sounded like a long enough time, until they went back to the office and began to craft what they wanted in the ad. They needed to mention the company name three times with their phone number and website, as well as what they were offering for service, all in under thirty seconds.

The message that I wanted them to share was from a mother's perspective: how nice and how good my sons are. But the message needed to state facts that would prompt people to want more information in regard to their computers. As we found out through this process, thirty seconds goes very fast.

What if we had only thirty seconds to witness about Jesus and let people know what He has done for us and why people need Him? Would we share what He has done in our lives, or would we share Scripture, like this famous verse?

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (NIV)

The Lord also spoke to me about the message that I can inadvertently give to people in a lot less than thirty seconds by casting a careless word to someone, or by not taking the time to lend an ear and just listen, or by being too busy to just give a smile or a bit of my time.

The message of Jesus to us is, "Come to Me; seek Me, rest in Me." To get this across to the world is our mandate.

Matthew 4:19 – "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." (NIV)

Luke 12:31 – "But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well." (NIV)

Matthew 11:28 – "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (NIV)

Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word as reference for sharing Your message. You are our guiding light, and we can trust You to give us what we need when we need it for others. Lord, help us to keep in the Word and to confess our sins to You. Help us to use our time wisely and to walk closely with You at all times. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
