We recently put our travel trailer on a church site for the summer. It is only 45 minutes from home. We plan to have many weekends there, both as a couple and as a family. The irony of this is that the site that best fit our trailer is the exact same site that my husband's parents had for a number of years. In fact, the boys spent many a summer there growing up. As my husband and I took the trailer to the site, I said to him, "Wouldn't it be funny if the boys met girls there this summer?" Only the boys are not boys, but, in fact, young men. We both chuckled at the thought of the young men in our home meeting young women at a camp that they loved and had come to so often as children.
Well, God sure does have a sense of humour! This past weekend, we went up on Friday evening, and the boys were going to follow on the Saturday. We didn't have a campfire but spent the evening in the trailer, and we were not aware of what was happening in the vacant field near our trailer. We went to bed and heard nothing out of the ordinary. Consequently, we were very surprised when we got up to see the field filled with six tents. Even more to our amazement was the group that was occupying them: girls, and plenty of them! As we broke into fits of laughter, we began to talk about this together. As it turned out, the girls were much younger than our boys. Nonetheless, this got me thinking about our Father in heaven and how He is involved in our everyday lives.
God is into the desires of our heart.
Psalm 37:4 – Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart's desires. (NLT)
God does hear our requests, and He grants them according to His plan.
Psalm 5:3 – Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly. (NLT)
God is into the details and everyday happenings in our lives
Proverbs 19:21 – You can make many plans, but the Lord's purpose will prevail. (NLT)
Let us take care to delight ourselves in the Lord and align our desires with His, so that He can grant us the desires of our hearts.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You that You provide to us grace, mercy, and peace in our lives. Show us how to share this in the world. Thank You that even before time, You had each of us in Your plan, and You do know what is in store for each of us who calls upon Your name. Thank You for family and children, and that You also have a plan for their lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
